Review of City Lights (1931) by Nino M — 06 Feb 2012
It does so many things, and it does each thing perfectly. The incredible blend of rip-snorting slapstick, heart-gripping drama and hear-melting romance is masterful. The ending is quite possibly one of the most touching endings I've ever seen, and it's only because of the culmination and amalgamation of Chaplin's charm and the gripping story.
I was thoroughly surprised at how enticing everything was. Although, it may not be as funny as you might expect(there are several great hilarious moments, but it's not as many as you'd expect.
) But considering the film isn't too focused on the gags, it's not really an issue. What makes City Lights so great is how well everything comes together by it's end and how the ending makes you realize how beautiful, touching, funny, and charming the entire experience is.
