Review of City Lights (1931) by Alexander P — 29 Aug 2012
A few years ago the thought of me watching a Charlie Chaplin film did not interest me in the slightest. After starting the 1000 top films marathon I slowly and then more rapidly changed my opinions on film and towards older films, I saw Modern Times and it was fantastic, I then saw City Lights and the film is without doubt a masterpiece.
Physical comedy at its best, even with silence the humour and romance shines through and the film is a joy from start to finish. Chaplin is a master and there are scenes that 81 years later make you laugh still today.
A master of the art and a masterpiece of the classic age.
