Review of City Lights (1931) by Dan N — 29 Jul 2010
Once again Charlie spellbinds us into his own little freaky world.
The Tramp is definitely one of the most important figures in the history of cinema. With this character, Chaplin defined and redefined Comedy over and over.
The opening sequence is pure hilarism.
Although the story can't keep up to the feature length, the gags are still some of the funniest movie scenes I've seen and far beyond most of that crap that is being produced today.
In my eyes, Charlie Chaplin is the greatest film maker of all time. Both as an actor and director (and also composer and screenwriter, for the note).
Anyway, this is "only" his second best film, after Great Dictator. But it's one of the best Comedies I've come across to watch.
Recommendable for everybody. Stop watching Twilight! Watch real movies instead!
