Review of City Lights (1931) by Matthew D — 12 Sep 2012
This is probably the most over-hyped film in history. It steers in the right direction until the "Tell him I'm out!" scene, but it is literally, the most heart-rending end to any film I have ever seen.
Maybe it's because I don't appreciate this film, I have no clue, but really it's a enjoyable enough movie. Great supporting performances from The Eccentric Millionaire (Harry Myers) and The Blind Flower Girl (Virginia Cherrill), who are a key factor to this film.
Of course, Chaplin steals the show, in his second last outing as "The Tramp", a loveable character he invented in 1914. As in every Chaplin movie, there's a funny eating scene - this time he eats party streamer tied into his spaghetti - really funny to watch that! I would recommend his film to anybody.
