Review of City Island (2009) by Chris H — 26 Jul 2010
City Island is one of those films that are all about the ending. The plot is quite predictable; you watch as the various secrets and lies of the characters are inflated throughout most of the story. You know this house of cards will tumble down at the end, but you still want to see it.
It is worth it though. The culmination is profoundly funny, thoughtful and sends an important message.
The characters are vivid and well played. The script is not very comedic during most of the film, but definitely well written and natural.
With all the mindless comedies coming out recently, this was a very pleasant surprise and a treat for a rainy evening.
