Review of City Island (2009) by Ray P — 23 Sep 2010
Terrific indie film about the highly under-publicized area of the Bronx, NY, known as City Island.
Andy Garcia (in a stand-out performance) is the father of a family that is riddled with secrets they keep from each other. Garcia's secret is his yearing to be an actor and break away from his job as a Correctional Officer. The best parts of the film are watching him make this transition as he has the opportunity to audition for a Scorcese film.
Great performances by all in a very likable movie about family bonds, dreams, desires and a valentine card to this area of NY where time seems to have stood still for the past several decades.
