Review of City Hunter (1993) by C B — 30 Apr 2012
So I initially got this movie in a "crap pack" as I like to call it from ym brother for Christmas last year. The premise being that neither of us has any money so we go to the used DVD/CD place and buy 3 or 4 random DVD's on the cheap.
I finally get around to watching them (no easy task) and I come across this. A pre English speaking Jackie Chan as a cop that drives a flashy car. Looks like your standard shitty Japanese action movie, until I realized that the movie was based off of a manga series of the same name.
After watching about five minutes I was immediately reminded of movies like 30o, Sin City, and Scott Pilgrim V. The World. Movies that resemble the comic to such an extent that watching the movie and reading the comic are basically the same thing.
City Hunter is in this category. All the stunts, all the camera angles, all the special effects, and the acting are all reminiscent of reading a manga novel (right to left of course :) ) If you are a fan anime or manga you know what I am talking about.
If you are familiar with Japanese animation at all for that matter then check this out.
