I agree with Lanning, it is a softer role for James Cagney, which was a nice refreshing change from all of his gangster films. Ann Sheridan, also did a lovely job. And I kind of see it as a continuation of Angels with Dirty Faces, except this time, he falls for her AND they wind up together at the end.
