With all the tension of a great spy thriller Citizenfour exposes the extent of the metadata harvesting of a state network that presents itself as benign. Freedom is trivialized as "privacy" in the biggest construction of a machine for totalitarian manipulation the world has yet seen.
Beautifully shot in media res, as what could be a banal set events assumes its post-national significance.
