Review of Citizen Kane (1941) by Andrew B — 10 Dec 2015
The greatest film of all time or the greatest film ever made? No, but I would say that it is the most IMPORTANT movie ever made. Changing and influencing the way movies were made forever. Everyone has their own personal taste, and I'm not just trying to be different or purposely going against the grain by saying it is not the greatest, but for me I found some other movies to be better and more entertaining, but that doesn't take away the fact that this Citizen Kane is phenomenal.
Not just for the importance factor that it has in cinema history, it is certainly a great story and brilliantly acted and put together. Orson Welles clearly had a unique vision when making this movie.
For god sakes this is the first film ever that you use ceilings on camera. In 1941 this was absolutely revolutionary and mind-blowing. Today a movie like this would be common, but the film itself is so good it would still garner Oscar attention for the movie and the performances.
Its a deeply layered portrait of a deeply flawed individual played by Welles, but one for the ages.
