Review of Citizen Kane (1941) by Gavin S — 31 May 2012
I don't really understand how someone can boil down a negative review to the film being style over substance, all visuals and nothing else. To me, Citizen Kane is one of the most complex and sympathetic character portraits in cinema, I think anyone who's ever seen a drunkard being left should feel incredibly moved by the later bits as it perfectly shows the complexities and fleeting emotions of human beings and the social pretense of their relations.
Also, I shouldn't have to mention that Orson Welles is a phenomenal actor and director. Totally deserving of it's acclaim.
