Review of Citizen Kane (1941) by Danilo M — 27 Jun 2012
Kane, one of the most influential people of his time has died and a Mr Thomson is entitled with the task to get to know what he meant by his last word in order to gain insight on his life to make a film.
Through this flawless film we get to know Charles Kane; From an idealist youngster to an isolated and unsatisfied man in his elder years, we explore his personality to a full extent: His humble uprising, his never-ending search for love and public acceptance, his expectations and how he ultimately dies lonely in his monumental mansion.
The movie also delivers its own take on media and its impact on society, one that strikes just too close to home even nowadays more than seven decades after it was produced. Top acting, the plot never gets dull, and in the middle of it all we follow this sort of mystery following his last word "Rosebud": the resolution of which, as simple as it may be, doesn't leave us disappointed but on the contrary, nothing short of amazed.
We knew Kane so well, but so little at the same time...
