Review of Citizen Kane (1941) by Mikhail B — 01 Jul 2012
A psychological sketch of a life of one of the richest people on Earth, his insatiable urge for fame and his failed crusade to win people's love. As he dies, we scroll down through the many fine and expensive things he used to have, his unsuccessful love stories, even his near-revolutionary activities as the owner of a major newspaper, it all boils down to his childhood when he suffered from the lack of love from his father.
Though the protagonist (Orson Welles, who is also a director) performs extremely well, the script fails to keep the audience in suspense half the length of the film, probably, at the time of production the very view of a moneybag's fortune and how it goes, would already make a story of its own.
As for me, I missed the point.
