Review of Citizen Kane (1941) by Nathan C — 23 Jul 2012
An excellent film that's oddly fascinating yet deeply resonant, this truly is an American classic! Granted, it's a bit overrated, but it is by far a motion picture that no serious film enthusiast could possibly ignore.
Handled with a unique approach that's ahead of its time, this is a feat nicely pulled off by Orson Welles, a visionary artist who may have been new to film at the time but was no stranger to radio (which, as well as other things, does make for an interesting backstory to this film).
Compelling performances, a fractured, complex storyline that is actually coherent, and the countless contributions it has made for film as an art form (kudos to the cinematography) really causes it to live up to the hype and enhances what is already a powerful tragedy.
Thoughtful, captivating, and rich with detail and depth... need I say more to convey how sensational and beloved this film is?
