Review of Citizen Kane (1941) by Frank E — 24 Jul 2012
A movie that redefined cinematic history for ever. An intelligent, dialogue-driven plot that combines elements of a melodrama and a somber mystery tale about a publishing tycoon' life, his ups and downs.
It flows as perfectly as any of Welles' stage plays. The director shines in the role as the titular emotionless, self-centered, arrogant and simultaneously powerful and filthy rich loner. Through the use of retrospection and generally flawless storytelling, Welles shows a story, which is as spellbinding as it is sorrowful at times.
One last word: Rosebud.
