Review of Citizen Kane (1941) by Darien S — 26 Aug 2012
One of those films whose reputation precedes it so much that you would think it would be impossible to meet the expectations of the uninitiated. But this film revolutionized film making and it still holds up as being excellently done in every possible way.
The film is complex enough that multiple showings, I'm sure, would call more attention to its mastery of camera shots, lighting, music, writing, and story, but it flies by in such a whirlwind of entertaining visuals and powerhouse performances that even a casual film goer could recognize the debt storytelling owes to Citizen Kane.
