Review of Citizen Kane (1941) by Jonathan V — 23 Nov 2012
Incomparable. Utterly breathtaking in every aspect. One of the greatest films of all time, made by one of the finest directors and actors of all time. Few film stars come close to, much less rival the status and acclaim as the great Orson Welles.
His directorial skills are exceptional, giving re-birth to an almost lost visual style familiar from the silent era. The cinematography is incessantly versatile and the sound is intriguing to the extreme. Each actor's emotion is nerve-wracking and has an enormous appeal. The screenplay, principally (and surprisingly) written by Welles is as I like to describe: a living storybook - each piece of dialogue like a new page; each one as unique as the next.
Rightfully-so a landmark in American cinema - something to be proud of. 'Citizen Kane' is, from my part, a textbook masterpiece.
