Review of Citizen Kane (1941) by Kim B — 18 Dec 2012
Robbed of the awards it should of won, the real life story is just as interesting as the movie. I highly recommend seeing the battle of citizen Kane as well, which describes this. I thought it was a special features disc, so I almost didn't watch it.
I was actually delighted to find out it was a documentary on the behind the scenes story of the movie. Wow this movie was ahead of its time. At first I was kinda confused cuz it has a unique intro, I was like is this the movie? By the end I was still wanting to see and know more about this Kane, that's when u know a movie or book is good.
It lingers with you after it's done. Kane is incredibly charismatic and who isn't obsessed with knowing more about the fantastically rich n famous. What a unique message too with a unique character I didn't see that coming.
It got really interesting about half way thru when u start to see his character flaws n get inside his life. Just shows that u can have everything in life n still can be empty inside. Not only is that so strong but the script is great, the acting, and all the technical details like shots, lighting, n music.
The cinematography is beautiful. Now I see what all the fuss is about. I also love the pacing of this movie n how it keeps ur interest with all the different characters n stories. I recommend it n the documentary on it.
I just can't believe I never heard of Hearst before or Welles except for his Martian radio stunt. You can tell u r watching something great when u see it. Btw movie is completely diff than what I thought it was about a personally falsely accused of being communist n torn to shreds by a newspaper lies.
I can't believe a 24 year old made this.
