Review of Citizen Kane (1941) by Harry W — 11 Jan 2014
The only real flaw I found with Citizen Kane was that it didn't capture me until around 40 minutes in. Once Orson Welles graced the screen with his presence in an excellent performance which gave us true insight into the mind of Charles Foster Kane.
I can see why Citizen Kane was so influential. It's cinematography was excellent and it's creative use of music kept the movie running at a fair pace with the correct emotion. It also contained good moral points in the story about the hollow shell of rich life and how you truly have to enjoy the little things while you can, as evident through several key scenes.
If you've heard enough references from pop culture then you'd know what Rosebud really meant, an i'm disappointed I didn't get the chance to find out in a surprising manner, so I urge you to not look it up but rather just uncover the mystery by watching this masterpiece of classic cinema. What Rosebud is can sum up a man's whole life in one word. We all have our own Rosebud, find out was Charlie Kane's was by witnessing director, writer and star Orson Welles' masterpiece.
