Review of Citizen Kane (1941) by Frank V — 06 Apr 2014
Orson Welles' Citizen Kane is often considered by critics as the greatest movie of all time, but it is often called boring, long and pretentious. By far it is the former. Even putting Citizen Kane's revolutionizing of film aside it is easy to consider it the best.
And that's simply because everything is so top notch: acting, direction, lighting, writing, editing- but especially the cinematography-OH LAWD THE CINEMATOGRAPHY. Like its reputation, everything in Citizen Kane is absolutely larger than life.
And one thing I did not expect from Kane is the blend of genres that it provided: drama, comedy, biopic, romance- it effectively pulls off each. As popular it is to disagree with the genius of this film I have to agree with the critics.
This is one of if not the greatest film of all time. 5/5.
