Review of Citizen Kane (1941) by Alex V — 12 Nov 2012
I can appreciate the meticulous use of deep focus cinematography as well as the next person, but for what is essentially structured as a bio-pic, I didn't find myself caring all that much for Kane or his unquenchable desire to be loved. 'Citizen Kane' certainly has its moments, but the character rarely grabs hold, likely because although the movie is about the guy, we never see things from his perspective. Instead, the story is told from the objective viewpoints of those around him, giving us only snippets of his his life. Unsatisfying snippets. Though it very well might have been the point, by the end I felt as frustrated as the news reporters. And hell. They gave up.
--6.3/10--.
