Citizen Kane is hard to explain. It's a dark, powerful story about the rise and fall of a tycoon, and is surprisingly easy to watch for being such an old film. It sets the stage for many other stories like Scarface and Breaking Bad, chronicles of greedy men who fall victim to their own insecurities.

Charles Kane is a very compelling, driven and charismatic character and so is the movie that follows him, but at times the movie feels a bit out of reach because it's not chronological. It bounces all over the place and is told from many different perspectives, which adds dynamics to the story but also can be difficult to follow.

It is a film that asks a lot of questions, but refuses to give any easy answers. There are many cool creative things that were put into this movie. I learned in class about the deep focus and the almost noir lighting, which add to the film's grand, dark mood.

Citizen Kane is complex and enigmatic and it's hard to describe it concisely.
