Review of Circumstance (2011) by Ron G — 23 Dec 2011
The movie comes straight from Iran.... Left me breathless and choked me with tears by the performances of all the actors.... "a beautifully constructed film that is as gritty as the subject matter, and as lyrical as the redemption and the peace its characters all seek" as one critic noted, I agree solemnly to it, with the director trying really hard to bring to fact about the oppression in sexuality oppression, wishes among youths for freedom.... Let me try to narrate a scene...
The camera focuses on the actress lying on the beach with her scarf on her head after a hard game of beach-volley with her family and her secret "partner"...behind her (blurred, with the camera focused one her) one can see a blurred woman in 'burka' pouring tea for three men in swimming suits. Just then the actress's elder brother asks whether their father wants to go for a swimming... His father agrees and says to his wife "One day I hope we will go swimming together"....and goes for swimming !!
... Never seen anyone making so many points so subtly yet in such a powerful manner that it can literally shake the conscience of anyone....even the MCPs .... I vote for an Oscar this year !!!! !!! !!!! A must see movie for all genres and I think this movie horn locks with Hollywood very strongely as far as quality is concerned !!
