Review of Circle (2015) by Brendan L — 06 Nov 2015
Reminiscent of other one-room thrillers like Cube and Exam, Circle treads similar ground by offering audiences a plot driven by human condition, ethics and morality.
Circle works in that regard, creating a sense of paranoia and moral ambiguity, although to varying degrees of effectiveness. Some of the characters are a little archetypal, so some suspension of disbelief is necessary. The film however does throw the viewer for a couple of loops, bread-crumbing to a final climax that does satisfy, though the actual ending of the film is quite weak and leaves much to be desired.
It's nowhere near a perfect film (or even a great one), but Circle did manage to entertain with it's TV actors and Twilight Zone-esque charm. It's worth a watch on a quiet evening.
3/5.
