Review of Cinema Paradiso (1988) by G M — 30 May 2009
My rating is for the theatrical release version, which is what I saw first and fell in love with. The Director's Cut adds another hour of footage that might be more realistic and life-like character and story-wise, but it also takes focus away from Salvatore (Toto) and Alfonso's relationship and dwells the whole time on his childhood sweetheart.
The Director's Cut makes the movie drag and destroys the emotional impact and focus of the Salvatore/Alfonso storyline, which I love about the theatrical version.
