Review of Cinema Paradiso (1988) by Ravikiran A — 30 Jan 2010
Honestly, I don't see why some of the critics bitch about with this movie. I found Cinema Paradiso to be a beautiful tribute to cinema and friendship, and its almost-symbiotic relationship with life.
The characters are so beautifully drawn, and are totally lovable, specially the one of Toto as a child. Cascio is totally cute as the cinephile naughty kid who finds a father figure in the projectionist.
How cinema affects and influences Toto's life is beautifully portrayed in the movie. Definitely an enjoyable movie, with some really touching moments, and some tearjerker scenes. Sure, it's not the neorealistic cinema that critics seem to love oh so much, but as a modern fantasy, it is still something beautiful.
Definitely one of the best movies on modern international cinema.
