Review of Cinema Paradiso (1988) by Helen M — 25 Jul 2010
The film is spoken in Iitalian and is set in a small village in Sicily, a young boy named Salavatore (Toto) befriends a projectionist named Alberto who shows films for the town folk in Cinema Paradiso but the grown popularity of the slver screen one day gives Alberto the idea to project the film out onto the walls of the plaza and thus causes an accidental fire.
Toto rescues Alberto but the consequences of the fire makes Alberto permanently blind. Toto tells Alberto he will take over the Cinema Paradiso. The film looks at the bonds of love and friendship and has strong sentimentality and passion between the characters.
Lovers are lost and found, friendships are broken and rebuilt and trust and betrayal clash with each other.
