Review of Cinema Paradiso (1988) by Martinelle A — 28 May 2013
"Cinema Paradiso" is a film that, if you pay attention, warns its audience about two things: maintaining a healthy and balanced life and how love is transformative. While watching this film, the audience comes to understand who Salvatore is, what he becomes, and how a man named Alfredo is responsible.
Life Alfredo, Salvatore is passionate about films. However, Alfredo sees Salvatore's potential, and leads him down the path to become a successful filmmaker. However, Salvatore's profession is not without complications, as he is a man who, as the film evolves, is shown to be missing the presence of love in his life.
This film is more than telling a narrative about a little boy's love of movies, or about the father-figure who nurtures it. This film ultimately shows how one must ensure that love must be present both in one's personal and professional life.
Life is more than just an imitation of the actions seen on the big screen. Although we can learn from the many messages movies attempt to promote, life must be experienced. This is the lesson that Salvatore finally comes to realize at the end of this moving, honest, and nostalgic piece of cinema history.
