Review of Cinderella Man (2005) by Jay L — 02 Jan 2011
A masterwork. A spellbinding and marvelous piece of filmmaking from Director Ron Howard. A film that had me astounded, simply stunning. It is guaranteed to take your breath away, make your heart explode, and inspire you to the fullest extent possible. Definately one of the most inspirational films of all time, Cinderella Man is an instant classic. The ultimate underdog story, Cinderella Man is based on the incredible true story of rags to riches boxer James Braddock. A man that did any and everything to take care of his family in New York City during the Great Depression. He took to the boxing ring, and after a few incredible upsets, Braddock was not only fighting for him and his family, he was fighting for an entire city.
Russell Crowe is Oscar-worthy in his performance as James Braddock, he is such a talent to watch. Renee Zellwegger is great in her performance as Braddock's wife Mae. Paul Giamatti is spectacular as Braddock's coach and trainer Joe Gould. Howard assembled a talent filled cast, and it shows from start to finish.
Cinderella Man is a film based on hope, inspiration, love, family, and the will to survive. It's a spectacular sports film that provides plenty of brilliant boxing cinematography and a touching life story. One of the best underdogs stories out there.
