Review of Cinderella Man (2005) by Alvin Y — 10 Oct 2010
I don't know what to say or what to put in this review because I got a lot, lots of things to say how good and how really terrific this movie was. Before I have to start watching this movie, there are many movies about boxing that came up in my head, like â??Rockyâ??, â??Raging Bullâ??, and â??Million Dollar Babyâ??. I got to say after watching this movie, it was like putting all those 3 movies together and make a beautiful and well acted film at the same time with a inspiring story. As I said story, director Ron Howard greatly tells us not just about the main character Jim Braddock which played by Russell Crowe but also tells us about how life was during the Great Depression in the 1930's. Can you believe that out of all this hardships and sacrifices that America is facing that time, there is one man, which is Braddock, who gives up everything in playing boxing just for him to have a stable life for him and for his family. There are also many supporting actors in here which also did good job on their performances. As for the character of Braddock, I think he is JUST an ordinary guy who is so courageous and loving man has potential and skill that put him into success at the end. I also think the title of the film refers to this boxer because like the real princess Cinderella, she is poor but has a strong and powerful heart, Braddock has also the same qualities that Cinderella has, so they call him Cinderella Man.
To end this, I gotta say that though it is predictable towards the end, I felt somehow different after seeing this movie. I care more of those people who need job, life, family, home at that time, well as usual in this modern days, most people need those things. If there would be a person like Jim Braddock whether a boxer or not, this person would be somewhat a hero not because he did something good for many people but because this person has some qualities that everyone can relate to. Overall, I just don't want to say I like this movie, but to say I really like this movie a lot and learned something about it from start to the ending. I am going to say again and again, it is one of the best films of 2005, and surely it is because you got some great actors and also a great director.
