Review of Cinderella Man (2005) by Kit X — 21 May 2011
The film looks good, feels generally classy, and succeeds as a sports movie, yet there are obvious flaws - primarily the narrative. The depiction of the socioeconomic landscape, whilst effective, lacks finesse.
The portrayal Max Baer suffers from two main flaws; it bares no resemblance to the real life Max Baer, which could be overcome if it were not for the second main flaw, Max Baer is depicted as an unrealistically two dimensional 'bad guy' boxer.
It feels as though a composite character was drawn from one of the lesser Rocky sequels and given a real person's name. Don't come to the film with too high expectations and you'll be satisfied with a fairly good film.
