Review of Cinderella Man (2005) by Maridia B — 06 Apr 2012
Ron Howard's Cinderella Man is based on the real story about the Irish-American Boxer Jim Braddock (Russell Crowe) who had it all, fame and lots of money, but that suddenly changes when the Wall Street Crash occurs Jim's popularity drops and his standard of living fall drastically. Years later his old manager Joe Gould (Paul Giamatti) offers Jim a fight, and by surprise Jim wins this fight, and this leads to more victories, so surprising that he is named Cinderella Man by the press.
Cinderella Man a good sports movie, but not an original one, it's pretty much like Rocky. Even though this film is based on real events, it does like to put in things that is fictional just to get the right dramatically Hollywood film, which I can understand. But I really like about this movie it's how it's shows the life standard during the great depression, and how our heroes deal with it. Russell Crowe give a down to earth performance, while Paul Giamatti is the quiet opposite which make them a good couple. Thumbs up.
