Every year there are 2 films that are released covering the same topic, this year it happened to be Winston Churchill. Unfortunately for this film, it will always lie in the shadow of The Darkest Hour and although I have yet to see that one, I already have the impression it is far superior.
The focus of this film is 1944 as Churchill, Eisenhower and Montgomery squabble over plans for the D-Day landings. Churchill finds himself haunted by the disaster at Gallipoli during the First World War and fears history is soon to repeat itself.
I'm not sure how historically accurate this film is, Winston Churchill certainly isn't portrayed as the strong leader we perceive him to be, here he is portrayed as an interfering old man who lacks focus and vision.
Brian Cox does a fairly decent impression of the man but compared to Gary Oldman, which he always will be now, his performance and the film overall are somewhat lacking.
