I know that WKW did not connect the two stories on purpose, but I can't help wishing they'd been woven together a little bit. The second story I found more compelling than the first, although I think that was more on reflection than anything, because the first half of the movie was certainly entertaining and compelling .
. . it is only in comparison with the depth of the second half that it really starts to suffer. Also, the second half of the film has Tony Leung cheering up things in his apartment, and that is ADORABLE, and probably responsible for one of the stars all on its own.
