Review of Chungking Express (1994) by Edgar C — 31 Dec 2012
A tribute to cinema divided in two parts: film-noirs with their iconic femme fatales and the French Nouvelle Vague. Women are the vehicle for the male protagonists to live in a world of idealized realities and to be surrounded by the slightest emotional connections in every street corner, in every physical object, in every nostalgic requiem. Kar-wai Wong directs a masterpiece through which he says: "I understand the modern pop-cultured Hong Kong and this film is dedicated to every single passionate human, whether they can handle the cause-and-consequence law and love itself, or not." Invigorating brilliance plagued with real and authentic human emotions.
97/100.
