Review of Chronicle (2012) by Cherish W — 09 Feb 2013
Chronicle was one of the biggest and best surprises if 2012. I initially had no interest in this film and my first impressions of the advertising campaign where pass caring and I don't tend to bother with found-footage gimmicky films. However, surprisingly Chronicle turned out to be one of my favourite of 2012.
The original concept is refreshingly understated and is an interesting alternative to the usual superhero film. The lineup of unknowns is surprisingly a success, there's by no means any major impact performances, but everybody is convincing and likeable. Usually in these kind of films it's just a who's who of awful performances, but the cast of Chronicle is a turn up for the books.
The special effects are also surprisingly impressive considering the low budget. Some scenes are visually stunning, whilst others don't hold up so well. But there's by no means any bad moments of CGI that in anyway damage the film.
The so called found footage is surprisingly visually well choreographed and shot. Chronicle looks stunning in high def and holds it own as an impressive and pleasing visual experience. The after so many brilliant set pieces, the film concludes brilliantly and I personally can't wait for a sequel. Chronicle is very much something of an unsung hero.
