Review of Christopher Strong (1933) by Keenan S — 29 Mar 2018
Chrisopher Strong is a strange entry into the legendary Katharine Hepurn's filmography, but an an enjoyable film nonetheless. The plot involves an aviator (Katharine Hepburn) who falls in love with a British married man with political aspirations.
It's a scandalous film for its time, but what makes it work are the performances. Even though this is one of the films that turned her into box office poison, I think it is a well-directed and compelling film featuring one of the greatest stars in the history of film.
There may be some melodrama, but thanks to the performances, the film rises well above that label. It's an enjoyable, underrated film within Katharine Hepburn's veritable filmography. It's not her best performance, but it's still a great performance nonetheless.
