Review of Christopher Robin (2018) by Dylan K — 06 Aug 2018
A beautiful, heartwarming story that brings us back to our childhood.
In the heatwarming live action adventure "Disney's Christopher Robin," the young boy who loved embarking on adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood with a band of spirited and loveable stuffed animals, has grown up and lost his way. Now it is up to his childhood friends to venture into our world and help Christopher Robin remember the loving and playful boy who is still inside.
I'll be completely honest, I didn't expect to be laughing that much when I entered the theaters to see this film. Not only did we get to see the character we love brought to life in live action form, but it was done in a great way. I actually just found out that there was a different version last year and I'm definitely interested in seeking that out. But for now, I want to say that while imperfect, this was a fun and heartwarming film.
One thing I loved were the characters. We get to see Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger, and everyone else we know and love. Their personalities were brought to life in an astonishing way. The animation looked so beautiful and clean, and these guys had more than a few hilarious lines. Their personalities were so well defined and I loved the experience I got, as I felt like I myself was hanging out with Pooh and his whole gang.
This film is pretty simple. It's a by-the-books movie with no real surprises. It knows what it is and it doesn't try and do more than that. Now whether that's a good thing or not, that's up to you. I felt like this movie didn't go take any risks and I understand that, but I wish there was more to the story. I thought the overall message and adventure was fun but it felt like it was missing something more.
In the end, "Christopher Robin" was a beautiful tale and I enjoyed my experience with it. I can't wait to watch it again and hopefully recapture those feelings of joy.
