Review of Christopher and His Kind (2011) by David Ray G — 18 Jul 2011
I've been waiting for such a long time for someone to make the Isherwood book into a film. I remember when I was a horny teenager (I'm still horny, but not a teenager - WHAT KIND OF A REVIEW IS THIS ANYWAY???) I was looking all over for gay-themed books, and Christopher and His Kind was one I never managed to find. So, I'm very happy the book was made into a movie. I'm an Isherwood fan, and I think this movie did great justice to his work, and to him. Even if certain things were omitted in the movie.
This film made me feel...happy. And sad, and reminiscent and hopeful and hopeless all at once. I love how they portrayed the era - realistically and intensely. The performances are absolutely wonderful - the singing bits by Imogen Poots were brilliant. And I loved how genuine the chemistry between the characters was. A film noir of shorts - which I cherish.
