(1 Star) I know there is a large number of bad Christmas comedies, but this is one of the worst. I would love to know what insane, far-fetched universe Christmas with the Kranks exists in... it seems like everyone is an unlikable cheapskate and the materialistic aspect of Christmas governs the lives of everyone.
This film is like watching a Target Christmas commercial from hell. Luther Krank (Tim Allen) is an unlikable miser who we're supposed to identify with, but it's impossible due to his continuously terrible and selfish decisions.
It's not that skipping Christmas is a bad idea, but the stingy ways in which he completely boycotts it is appalling. Nora Krank (Jamie Lee Curtis) shrieks a lot, redefining the definition of scream queen.
And if you think they're crazy, the Kranks' neighbors are from a different planet... they don't celebrate Christmas, they belong to the Cult of Christmas. Its comedy is extremely unfunny and lame and I'm not sure who it's supposed to appeal to: kids? Old people? Tapeworms? Then it tries to have a plot involving a burglar instead of a bunch of bad comedy setups late in the third act.
Whatever you do, don't spend Christmas with the Kranks.
