Review of Christmas in July (1940) by Chris S — 16 Sep 2009
Sure, the ending's predictable and it's the usual slapstick/screwball comedy expected from Preston Sturges but I personally think this has more heart than Sullivan's Travels, Sturges' most appreciated work, making us feel sorry and empathetic for the hopeful and joyful couple after thinking that they have won the contest, and that means a lot to me since I usually dislike Dick Powell.
