Review of Christine (1963) by Adam M — 15 Aug 2011
Adaptation of Stephen Kings novel. The thing with Kings book-to-film things is that sometimes the odd great film comes up but alot of the time they're a bit dodgy, not that he needs to give a shit about that, and Christine falls somewhere in the middle.
When a geeky high school student buys a new car it seems to have a mind of its own and that mind turns the usual geeky nice guy into a big asshole as he becomes more obsessed about the car than his family, friends and girlfriend and when they try and come betweeen him and the car, Christine exacts nasty revenge.
Although neither scary or gory, John Carpenter relies more on atmosphere and the power of the story to get by and does a pretty good job. This also features acting daddy Harry Dean Stanton and also an early appearance from fitty Kelly Preston.
