Review of Christiane F. (1981) by Iina K — 10 Jan 2015
A dreary, uncompromising look at the seedy side of innocence corrupted, by excessive drug use. The fact that it's based on a true.
Case (a weeks long magazine interview) makes it all the more sad.
This subject matter has been done countless times later one (and perhaps before), but this was one of the first more bleak, eager looks at the drug lifestyle. Not style heavy like todays drug flicks.Bored, lonely, affected, unphased 14 year old Christiane F. looks for the next level of "fun", not realizing that downside of prostitution and withdrawals that she soon will succumb to.
Excellent pace, cool looking colorful (but grounded) visuals, with a very pleasing on the ears, David Bowie soundtrack.
My second favorite drug movie (Requiem for a Dream is a far first though).
