Review of Chopper (2012) by Lee B — 11 Apr 2010
I can see why Hollywood imported Eric Bana to be a major role player. As was mentioned about him in this role, you can?t keep your eyes off him. However, I have yet to see him in a role even close to this in any Hollywood movies. Here, if is charming and funny and likable and scary, often all in the same shot.
This is a very interesting biography piece where the magnetic personality of the lead is what makes the movie. But it could have gone further if they tied the story together in a narrative sense instead of just following the scripted moves of the Bana character. This movie is an odd punch in the gut for a reality type that still seems fantasy. But, I guess that was the point with Chopper (the person).
