Review of Chopper (2000) by Brandon S — 09 Jan 2010
Eric Bana is a terrifying, brutal bear of a man in this. Also, strangely hilarious. This film is a great true crime story, focusing on the brutal real life Mark "Chopper" Read notorious for his temper, his violent habits and also his charisma.
It is stylistically told, sometimes veering into the territory of the surreal, but its style does not overwhelm the viewer. The unforgiving and unflinching violence and view into a demented criminal's mind takes care of that just fine.
