Review of Chopper (2000) by Danny G — 26 Jan 2010
Andrew Dominik´s astounding, gritty and macabre first outing charts a few significant years in the life of Mark ´Chopper´ Reed. Based on Austrailia´s most notorious son´s own bestselling book, this is an uncomfortable yet darkly hilarious romp through the countries modern underbelly.
Brought into vivid life by a then untested Eric Bana, who at the time a respected stand-up comic, this monsterous man is played with such gleeful psychosis you may find yourself drawn into his morally backward view of the world.
It´s a tour-de force and mesmirising piece of work from both actor and director.
And a clean reminder of how versitile Bana is, despite his recent descent.
