Review of Chopper (2000) by Steve F — 29 Nov 2012
A 90-minute whirlwind. Black, black humour and some very gory, shocking moments. Eric Bana (in his first role?) is a revelation here, at times coldly terrifying, at others paranoid and vulnerable, seeming genuinely sorry for the violence he metes out.
And all the time he's funny, both funny-ha-ha and EXTREMELY-funny-peculiar... Mark 'Chopper' Read is one of the strangest characters ever brought to life on screen.
The direction, lighting and cinematography is all top-notch, but most of all this is a brilliant tour-de-force by Eric Bana.
