Review of Chop Shop (2008) by Kenneth J — 15 Sep 2008
Everyone wants you to love this movie. It's gritty realism is laudable, but this movie was painfully aimless and boring. Maybe viewed from a sociologist POV it would make an interesting case study. As an art film, it fell well short of appealing.
I wanted to like the protagonist, but could not. Sorry lying, cheating, stealing does not make you attractive. It would be one thing if the character did this out of nescessity, but he didnt. Instead it was done from spite or bitterness. But feeding the fucking pigeons makes everything alright? No plot, no character development or change, no redeeming message or moral equals lame pretention masquerading as important film.
