Review of Choke (2008) by Deb S — 27 Sep 2009
The main character of Victor Mancini is played by Sam Rockwell, an unrepentant sex addict who uses his group sex addict meetings to pick up girls and pretends to choke in restaurants so his saviors can form a financial bond with him; cash which he uses to pay for his mother's hospital care. He frequently visits his delusional mother Ida played by Angelica Huston at the mental hospital because he is desperate to get his mother to tell him who his father is while she can still remember. Mancini isn't a nice guy, but the ladies seem to like him regardless in spite of him being self-obsessed, perverted, and manipulative.
Victor's best friend is Denny (Brad William Henke), the chronic masturbator who falls for a stripper named Cherry Daiquiri and manages to steal several scenes in the movie.
If you are curious about what goes on behind the scenes with sex addiction then you should definitely see this movie. After seeing it you might feel as a sex addict, instant gratification, but no lasting strong feeling one way or the other. Nevertheless, it's a good satirical comedy with some really weird drama mixed in.
