Review of Choke (2008) by Ile . — 10 Apr 2009
You know when there's a movie scene where a couple are making out or pretending to fuck and you feel uncomfortable b/c you're not used to being a voyeur? This movie has a lot of those scenes. Some are borderline soft porn. I think I'd have felt more perverted sitting through them if I'd been alone or using headphones instead of bringing folks in the lab into the audience. We were uncomfortable together.
It's funny. As a comedy the movie works.
Chuck's voice comes through this piece.
The story's unique. You can't really skip the sex for laughs or vice-versa b/c they go together so much. Ex: the funniest scene has the main character meeting a stranger to fuck her. She has a very particular rape scenario she wants to enact which plays out with some funny dialog. "how 'bout I rape you my way?" The contrast is hilarious between her feigning pleas for mercy and chewing him out for letting up.
